CYC NYNestled in the Adirondack Mountains, Lake Placid, New York is a popular resort area with a bustling tourist trade, and many hotels, restaurants, nightclubs and bars. On November 20, four of those establishments each accepted the gift of a Tokenworks ID scanner from the Lake Placid-Wilmington Connecting Youth and Communities Coalition (CYC).

The CYC, whose mission is to reduce substance abuse, including alcohol use, among young people, heard local establishments voice their desire for ID scanning technology, while balking at the upfront cost. Luckily, the CYC was able to respond. Having an ID scanner will assist the bars and clubs in correctly identifying customers, resulting in a twofold benefit: 1) reducing underage drinking and 2) avoiding infractions of drinking age laws.

There are many more restaurants and bars in the Lake Placid area that serve alcohol, so the bars that received the scanners were chosen for their popularity and “bar crowds.” A fifth scanner was also purchased by the CYC, and will be available to local organizations hosting special events in the area.
