Georgia Department of Driver Services Introduces New and More Secure Licenses & IDs

Beginning with Bainbridge, Decatur County, Georgia Department of Driver Services (DDS) is issuing new driver licenses and IDs. Currently, there is no need to renew until your current credential license is expired. Upon re-issuing, customers will be given the newly designed ID. The new design is made of polycarbonate to reduce document forgery and protect against identity fraud. The customer photo will now be black and white, the new industry best practice. The photo is laser engraved, virtually tamper resistant, and will increase the overall security of the license. The iconic Georgia peach and outline of the state will also be integrated into the design. The Real ID Security Star will continue to be featured in the upper right corner of the card, as well. The Georgia Department of Driver Services are ensuring that the new design of their ID cards will increase security and help continue to stop fake IDs and fraud. As with the previous licensing process, a temporary license with photograph and barcode is issued to all customers.  The temporary license is printed on 8.5 x 11, white, paper and is a synopsis of each customer’s service. It serves as proof of driving privileges until the permanent card arrives in approximately thirty days. Under 21 cards remain horizontal and distinguishable from the Over 21 issuances.
