Pennsylvania Begins Issuing REAL ID

On March 1, 2019 the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) began issuing REAL ID compliant driver’s licenses and ID cards. Pennsylvania residents applying for or renewing will have the option of a REAL ID or standard driver’s license/ID card. REAL ID compliant cards are distinguished by a gold circle with a star in the center.  Non compliant cards contain the text “NOT FOR REAL ID PURPOSES”. Currently, a REAL ID compliant driver’s license/ID card or passport is required to enter nuclear facilities, restricted federal buildings or military bases. Furthermore, after October 1st, 2020 REAL ID will be required to board domestic commercial flights. For more information please visit the PennDOT REAL ID website.
