The article discusses the increasing sophistication of fake IDs and the challenges they pose for bar owners and law enforcement. Now, more than ever, counterfeiters are using advanced technology like holograms, laser engraving, and microprints to create convincing replicas of IDs that even fool electronic scanners. Though law enforcement is working to deter the use of these fake IDs and apprehend the sellers, the concern remains and bar owners, in particular, are searching for ways to mitigate these risks by detecting and intercepting fake IDs at the door. Our company was highlighted in the article as a key tool a bouncer at Playhouse Bar in West Village uses as part of a two-step system to check and verify patrons’ IDs. Gregory Clark, the interviewed bouncer said the ID scanner is “like our own little police database” that’s helped seize dozens of fake IDs in recent months.
