On February 17, 2026, Service Oklahoma started issuing redesigned driver licenses and state ID cards. The new cards are made from 100% polycarbonate and feature security technology never used on a U.S. state credential.
If you’re an Oklahoma resident or a business that checks IDs, here’s an overview of the changes.
What’s New with Oklahoma Driver’s Licenses?
Unlike traditional cardstock, polycarbonate doesn’t crack or peel, and security features are embedded directly into the material rather than applied on top.
Oklahoma tapped Thales to produce the new cards. The company specializes in high-security credentials and produces IDs and passports for governments worldwide.
The card design also leans into Oklahoma identity. It features the North American bison, scissortail flycatcher, and redbud tree throughout, plus microprinting on the back that includes all 77 Oklahoma county names.
Service Oklahoma also launched Navigate, a new unified platform that replaces OkCARS as the single online destination for driver’s license and motor vehicle services.
In-person transactions that used to take 20 minutes or more are now being completed in under 10 minutes for standard services.
Key Security Features
The new Oklahoma credentials include:
- A laser-engraved, tamper-proof black-and-white portrait of the cardholder.
- RevealPlus, an exclusive Thales security element making its North American debut on Oklahoma licenses, features an animated secondary portrait with rolling text that shifts based on viewing angle.
- UV-only imagery that includes Oklahoma symbols and images visible only under ultraviolet light.
Oklahoma’s updated credentials also come with a change to the REAL ID indicator. The previous gold circle/star cutout has been replaced with a black circle/star cutout on REAL ID–compliant cards.
Non-compliant credentials are marked “NOT ACCEPTABLE FOR REAL ID OFFICIAL PURPOSES.”
What Oklahoma Residents Need to Know
If you’re an Oklahoma resident, you don’t need to do anything right now. Your current license stays valid until it expires, and when it’s time to renew, the new design is issued automatically at no extra cost.
You’ll still have the option to choose a REAL ID–compliant or standard credential, and the new polycarbonate card will withstand daily wear and tear better than your current card.

What to Know if Your Business Checks IDs
For Oklahoma businesses that depend on ID verification, such as bars, restaurants, cannabis dispensaries, liquor stores, and financial institutions, the new design and security features give you more to work with.
The new IDs come with laser-engraved elements that are easy to feel and difficult to duplicate, as well as UV imagery that provides a reliable secondary check.
Existing ID scanners can read and verify IDs without hardware changes.
Oklahoma joins Montana, South Carolina, and Texas, among other states that have recently unveiled new designs with more secure credentials to reduce fraud, speed up verification, and help businesses catch fake IDs.To renew or manage your license, visit the Service Oklahoma website.
