IDWedgeBT ID Scanner

The IDWedgeBT™ ID Scanner is a Wired or Wireless Bluetooth card scanner that scans drivers licenses, ID cards, credit/debit cards, loyalty cards, 1D barcodes cards, and membership cards into any computer via 3 different interfaces; the Bluetooth HID keyboard, Bluetooth Serial Port Profile (SPP) and as of March 2013 a USB keyboard.  IDWedgeBT™ auto fills electronic forms, on almost any computer,  twenty times faster than manually entry, eliminates card data keystroke errors and has embedded drivers license parsing software.

The IDWedgeBT extracts data from a wide variety of payment / identification cards and auto completes electronic forms on a wide range of mobile/desktop computers.  It captures information such as name, address, city, state, zip, date of birth, drivers license number, account number, expiration date and other fields printed on the front of an ID, credit card, membership cards or student ID and sends field data via Bluetooth link. It uses a user defined formula or script to auto complete the electronic form.  No software development is required for IDWedgeBT to scan card data into an electronic form.

It pairs wireless two ways and wired as a standard USB keyboard.  If wireless, either as a Bluetooth keyboard sending drivers license data directly into the active application or using Serial Port Profile (SPP) mode for Andriod/Windows/Linux/Chrome operating systems.  When pairing as a keyboard, there is no software development.  Works with virtually any existing application that is compatible with a keyboard.

With USB keyboard firmware, IDWedgeBT connects to a Laptop/Desktop as a standard USB HID keyboard.  This means no software installation on the Laptop/Desktop.  Simply scan an ID, Drivers License, Credit Card and/or 1D barcode and IDWedgeBT will type user specified fields into the active application.  This is ideal for computer based point of sale systems which typically are locked down to prevent software installations. 

Requirements

For wireless interfaces, Bluetooth v2.1 or higher for HID keyboard interface.  Since Bluetooth v2.1 came out (2007), most smartphones / tablets have more advanced versions.  For laptops / desktops without Bluetooth, a USB Bluetooth dongle works as long as it supports version 2.1 or higher. 

For wired interfaces, a USB port that recognizes an HID keyboard - this is most computers (MAC/PC/Linux) manufactured since 1996.  The latest USB HID specification update occured in 2001.  Its a very mature  interface.

A computer with a USB port - necessary to configure the formula or script used to autofill the form.  IDWedgeBT becomes USB flash drive when battery button is held down before connecting USB cable and a simple text editor is used to edit the formula files.

Configuration

The IDWedgeBT is user configured by programming simple user defined script or formula to specify the field order (first, middle, last, etc.) and the keystrokes (tab, arrow up, arrow down, enter) or characters (comma, space, slash, etc.) which are sent to the active form via the system keyboard buffer.  The application never knows if a user or the IDWedgeBT is typing in the fields. 

For Example, the Formula F{TAB}L{ENTER}A{ENTER}C [ ]S[,]Z{ENTER} Would create a mailing label in Word or Notepad application (assuming the cursor was active or blinking in that application). 

If the cursor was blinking on a web paged, then a formula like F{TAB}L{TAB}A{TAB}C{TAB}S{TAB}Z{TAB}{ENTER} put fill out the First name field on the form, tab over to the Last name field, enter last name, tab over to the next field and enter the Address, tab over to the next field and enter City, tab over to the next field and enter State, tab over to the next field and enter Zip, and finally tab over to a submit button and send the Enter Key.
